The theorists at Google argue that a platform shift occurs every decade – mainframe to mini-computers, mini computers to desktops and now desktops to mobile.
Don Dodge, a developer advocate at Google, uses a telling image to make his point.
Both images were taken in St Peter’s Square in Rome. The first is from Pope John Paul II’s funeral, the second is Pope Francis addressing the crowd. It says it all. Note the one flip top mobile in the bottom right on the earlier image.
Google argue that worldwide the primary intent now is to capture, share, engage, and interact in moments that matter. Judging what you see on Instagram I reckon that should also include a lot of moments that don’t matter.
