Geographical Magazine, published in printed format since 1935, is now available on PCs/Mac, tablets and smartphones. Digital subscribers can now sign up to just one subscription which produces a unique code which will allow the holder access to Geographical on iPads, iPhones, Android devices and even the new Kindle Fire.
In November 2011, Syon Publishing were tasked with converting the popular printed edition into a multi platform/device offering to help grow the subscriber base and to maximise any new potential revenue streams that digital publications offer. A digital strategy was devised in November followed by 3 weeks development of platforms and the subscription links. On December 21st the editions were launched on all platforms simultaneously, just 6 weeks after the project started.
Initial results are very encouraging with over 15,000 downloads in the first 3 weeks just on iPads and iPhones.
People who download the Geographical app have the ability to read the first 8 pages of the magazine for free before they are prompted to pay for a subscription.
Feedback from subscribers is very positive and the ability to access every issue for the last 5 years free with every subscription was stated as the best added value feature.
