The latest figures from the National Readership Survey in the UK reveal that in the last quarter of 2013, 72.3 per cent of British adults (over 15 is their yardstick) regularly read a magazine. That’s 37.7 million people!
And to cheer us up even more 20.7 per cent of British adults are reading those magazines on a PC or mobile.
Drilling in even further into the data reveals that online has a powerful uplift to the reach of existing print brands – across all titles digital gives an incremental increase of 7.9 per cent. For women’s titles that goes up to 11 per cent for monthlies and 11.2 per cent for weeklies.
For me the standout figure is that more than 20 per cent of us regularly access our magazine fix online. Any guesses on what the figure is going to be in five years? Magazines are here to stay and digital is now a key part of the mix.
